Financial Transactions Reporting Act and Anti-Money Laundering/Counter-Terrorism Financing Act Procedures

The Anti-Money Laundering/Counter-Terrorism Act 2006 (“AML/CTF Act”) introduced new measures to combat and identify money laundering and terrorism financing, along with existing measures under the Financial Transactions Reporting Act (FTR Act).

Health Super Financial Services (HSFS), its directors and representatives (including authorised representatives) must comply with both of these Acts. Together, the FTR Act and AML/CTF Act seek to provide a practical framework for limiting the opportunities for criminal activities that include money laundering and terrorism financing. They put in place a system of customer identification and other ongoing obligations (such as suspicious matter reporting) that aim to make it easier for the governing body, AUSTRAC, to identify money laundering and terrorism financing activities and to catch those involved.

Health Super Financial Services has an AML/CTF Policy that applies to anyone who is employed or engaged by HSFS, including Authorised Representatives. HSFS has also adopted the IFSA/FPA Guidance on Customer Identification for AML/CTF (the IFSA/FPA AML/CTF Guide). All staff, directors and Authorised Representatives are required to read, understand and comply with the AML/CTF Policy and the IFSA/FPA Guide.

HSFS is committed to conducting its business with honesty and integrity and expects all representatives to comply with their AML/CTF obligations. HSFS and its Representatives and Authorised Representatives have several obligations under the FTR Act and AML/CTF Act and have adopted a risk-based approach to meeting its AML/CTF obligations.
